Chargeflow is a good product aimed at a different moment than we are. It goes to work once the dispute exists. We go to work before the order does.

That makes this an unusual alternatives page. For a lot of stores the honest answer is to run both, and this page is here to help you work out which gap you actually have. Start with your last twelve months of disputes.

Why merchants switch

Why merchants leave Chargeflow

Recovery starts after the loss

By the time a dispute exists you shipped the goods, paid the fee, and lost the item. Recovery brings back some of the money. It never brings back the stock. Count both lines when you compare tools.

Prevention is priced per order

Chargeflow's prevention runs free for the first 1,000 orders a month, then $0.20 an order. At 5,000 orders a month that is $800 before any commission. Model your own volume against a flat plan before you decide.

The commission scales with your problem

Twenty-five percent of recovered chargebacks is a fair deal when volume is low, and it is free when nothing is recovered. As disputes grow, the cheapest chargeback becomes the one that never happened.

Alerts only cover what the networks route

Deflection works on disputes that arrive through card network alert programmes. Fraud that never triggers an alert is still yours to absorb. Ask which alert coverage applies to your card mix before you budget for it.

You want a policy, not an outcome

Some stores need to say never ship this combination, and mean it. That is a rule, and it belongs in the checkout or on the order. A dispute queue cannot express it.

Two tools are often the right answer

Prevention and recovery are not substitutes. Plenty of stores run a rules engine and a recovery service side by side, and that is a sensible setup rather than a compromise. This page exists to help you tell which gap you actually have.

In detail

The alternatives, one by one

Chargeflow Prevent Chargebacks

Best for: Stores with a dispute backlog and nobody with time to fight it.

Why choose it

  • 4.7 stars across 366 reviews and live since June 2021.
  • Free to install. The 25% commission applies only to chargebacks it actually wins back, so a losing month costs you nothing.
  • Prevention runs free for the first 1,000 orders a month, which means a smaller store can try it without a bill.
  • Alert deflection can resolve a dispute before it becomes a formal chargeback, which keeps it out of your ratio.

When not to choose it

  • It starts working after you have already shipped the goods and paid the fee. The stock never comes back.
  • At 5,000 orders a month the $0.20 prevention fee alone is $800 before any commission. Run your own number before you commit.

Setup notes

  • Pull your last twelve months of disputes first, so you can measure the win rate against your own baseline rather than a marketing figure.
  • Decide which disputes you want handled automatically and which you want to review yourself.
Pricing
Free to install. 25% commission on recovered chargebacks. Prevention free to 1,000 orders a month, then $0.20 an order. Alerts priced per prevented chargeback. Read 2026-08-23.
Example
A store with 20 disputes a month at $120 each recovers half. That is $1,200 back, and Chargeflow keeps $300 of it.

FraudFalcon

Best for: Stores that would rather not create the order than argue about it three months later.

Why choose it

  • Checkout rules stop the buyer before the order exists, so no payment is captured and no inventory moves.
  • Post-order rules read 35+ conditions, including the Shopify risk assessment, address mismatch, disposable email domains, IP address, and the customer's own chargeback history.
  • A matched order can be cancelled with automatic refund and restock, held for review, tagged, or sent to you as an alert.

When not to choose it

  • It recovers nothing. Disputes you already have stay yours, and a rules engine will never fight one on your behalf.
  • There is no free plan and no guarantee. Under roughly 100 orders a month the free options usually win on cost.
  • A rule written too wide blocks real customers. That risk is yours to manage, and it does not exist in a recovery service.

Setup notes

  • Build the first rule from an order that turned into a chargeback, using the customer chargeback count condition.
  • Run every rule in tag-only mode for a week and read what it would have cancelled before you let it act.
Pricing
$29.99 for 500 orders a month, $49.99 for 1,000, $149.99 for 5,000, and $399.99 for 20,000. Fourteen-day trial, no free plan. Read 2026-08-23.
Example
A store doing 1,000 orders a month pays $49.99. Two prevented $150 chargebacks cover six months, and the goods stay in the warehouse.

Shopify Protect

Best for: US merchants on Shop Pay who want free cover on stolen-card disputes.

Why choose it

  • Free. No fee, no commission, and nothing to install.
  • It covers the fraudulent and unrecognized chargeback reasons, which are the two that follow stolen card use.
  • The chargeback amount and the fee are credited back, and Shopify handles the dispute process for you.

When not to choose it

  • Eligibility is narrow. Shop Pay orders only, and the merchant must be located in the US with a US Shopify Payments account.
  • It reimburses, it does not prevent. The order ships, the goods leave, and the money returns later.
  • The exclusion list is long. Digital products, buy-online-pickup-in-store, subscription orders after the first, and any order whose shipping address changed after checkout all fall outside it.

Setup notes

  • Check which of your orders show as protected in the admin before you build a policy around it.
  • Meet the fulfillment gates. Valid tracking within seven days, in transit within ten, on a supported carrier.
Pricing
Free. Eligibility and exclusions verified against Shopify's own documentation on 2026-08-23.
Example
A US store on Shop Pay gets a $300 fraudulent chargeback credited back. The $300 returns. The product does not.

Wyllo, formerly NoFraud

Best for: Stores that want to hand both the fraud decision and the liability to somebody else.

Why choose it

  • Machine screening plus human analyst review, with shopper verification used to rescue borderline orders instead of killing them.
  • A dollar-capped guarantee at $500, $1,000, or $2,000 per order, so the liability you keep is a known number.
  • Live on the App Store since November 2016, at 4.8 stars across 152 reviews.

When not to choose it

  • The guarantee plans start at $250 a month, and the listing quotes roughly 1% to 1.5% of revenue at scale.
  • You give up the decision. If your own policy differs from their model, there is nowhere to encode it.

Setup notes

  • Note the rename. NoFraud is now Wyllo after a merger, so older reviews and articles use the previous name.
  • Run screening only first, and compare its verdicts against your own judgement before you buy a guarantee.
Pricing
Screening Only free to install. Guarantees at $250, $350, and $450 a month for $500, $1,000, and $2,000 of cover. Read on the App Store 2026-08-23.
Example
A store doing $60,000 a month at 1.2% pays around $720. That is worth it only if chargebacks cost more than $720 today.

Switching

How to switch without breaking anything

Time investment: About two hours to set up rules. A full month before you can compare chargeback counts fairly.

Before you start

  • Your last twelve months of chargebacks split by reason code. Fraudulent and unrecognized are the ones prevention actually moves.
  • Your dispute win rate today, so you can tell whether recovery or prevention is the bigger number for your store.
  • Your gateway and whether you use Shop Pay, because Shopify Protect depends on both and it costs nothing.

Where this breaks

  • Uninstalling Chargeflow stops it working your open disputes. Check what is in flight before you remove it.
  • A rules engine will not answer a dispute for you. If you have a live backlog, keep the recovery service until it is clear.
  • Two apps that both cancel orders will act on the same order. Decide which one owns the decision before you turn on the second.

Test these first

  • One order from a customer with a past chargeback, to confirm the rule fires.
  • One ordinary order from a repeat customer, to confirm it does not.
  • The refund and restock on a cancelled order, checked in your admin the same day.
  • Your dispute queue after a week, to confirm nothing in flight was dropped.

Safe rollout

  1. Day 0: install the rules app and leave Chargeflow running. Prevention and recovery do not conflict.
  2. Day 0 to 7: run every rule in tag-only mode and read what it would have stopped.
  3. Day 7 to 30: enable cancel and hold actions one rule at a time, checking orders each morning.
  4. Day 30: compare chargeback count and value against the previous month, then decide whether recovery is still earning its commission.

FAQ

Chargeflow questions, answered

What does Chargeflow do?
It fights chargebacks for you and deflects some disputes through card network alerts. It is a recovery service, so it does not stop a fraudulent order from being placed or shipped.
How much does Chargeflow cost?
It is free to install and takes 25% of the chargebacks it recovers. Prevention is free for the first 1,000 orders a month and $0.20 an order after that. Read on the App Store 2026-08-23.
Is Chargeflow worth it?
If you have disputes going unanswered, almost certainly. Recovering half of them at a 25% commission beats writing all of them off. That is a separate question from whether you should also prevent them.
What is the best Chargeflow alternative?
It depends what you want. FraudFalcon to stop the order first. Shopify Protect for free cover if you are a US merchant on Shop Pay. Wyllo if you want a guarantee with a dollar cap.
Can I use Chargeflow and a fraud rules app together?
Yes, and many stores do. One stops orders you should never have accepted, the other recovers money on the ones that slipped through. They work on different halves of the problem.
Does Shopify Protect replace Chargeflow?
No. Protect covers the fraudulent and unrecognized reasons only, on Shop Pay orders only, and only for merchants located in the US with a US Shopify Payments account. Everything outside that stays yours.
Does preventing an order stop the chargeback?
If the order never exists, there is nothing to dispute. That is the point of blocking at checkout. It does nothing for disputes you already have.
What is the difference between prevention and recovery?
Prevention decides before you ship. Recovery argues after you have already lost the goods and paid the fee. The cheapest chargeback is the one that never happened, but the second cheapest is the one you win back.
Will a rules app hurt my conversion?
It can, if you write the rules too wide. Run every new rule in tag-only mode for a week and read what it would have blocked before you let it act on anything.
Is NoFraud still called NoFraud?
It is now Wyllo, after a merger with Yofi. Older comparisons and reviews still use the NoFraud name, so search both when you research it.
How many chargebacks am I allowed?
Card networks put merchants into monitoring programmes once the ratio gets too high. Your processor sets the exact threshold and can tell you your current ratio, so ask them rather than guessing.
Does FraudFalcon fight disputes?
No. It can surface a dispute so you build a rule from the order that caused it, but the dispute itself is yours or your recovery service's to fight.
